fanned out on sonnenallee
the educational campus seestadt aspern III is being built in the north-western part of seestadt aspern. an integrative campus with a kindergarten, primary and secondary school and special educational needs facilities has been planned on construction site e7. the campus is designed to fit into the urban environment of sonnenallee - as a public place for learning, living and meeting.
open to the city, connected to nature
three fanned-out building parts form clear spatial edges to the city and at the same time open up to the green space. a recessed central building creates an inviting forecourt facing sonnenallee and defines the main entrance and foyer as a central address in the urban space. educational areas are oriented towards nature, while the communal centre faces the city - thus creating different qualities of experience. generous roofing and outdoor areas that can be used in a variety of ways promote learning in close connection with the surroundings.
sustainably built, flexibly designed
the construction utilises the materials according to their properties: reinforced concrete forms a slender skeleton structure that supports the modular timber ceilings. all connections are bolted or spiked, which means that all building materials can be dismantled individually and easily.
a surrounding balcony strip that rests on cantilevered brackets in front of the façade not only provides effective sun protection, but also creates open spaces that can be used individually from all rooms. the modular structure allows for future conversions, reversible lightweight walls and integrated storage solutions - offering maximum flexibility in everyday school life. green roof terraces, sophisticated rainwater management and the use of co₂-reduced building materials make the campus a contemporary place to learn and live.
