visiting professorship at faculty of architecture at CTU prague

starting in the winter semester 2024/25, jakob dunkl, gerd erhartt and peter sapp - prof. querkraft in short - will take over the visiting professorship at the faculty of architecture at CTU prague.

1st term, metamorphosis

the construction site of the lamarr-department store, planned by OMA, in vienna's mariahilferstrasse not far from our IKEA vienna westbahnhof, has been stopped. the investor is insolvent. the students have the task of transforming the shell of this building into the most beautiful and lively building in vienna - a hybrid object for living, working, producing and for leisure and cultural uses.

we are also celebrating the 100th anniversary of the death of famous prague-viennese author franz kafka, which is why the building will also house a kafka museum. "the metamorphosis" is not only the title of one of kafka's most famous books, but also the name of our studio.

2nd term, brigittenauer bridge

prague shows how bridges can shape cities. and vienna? has room for improvement. that's why prague architecture students are to design a bridge that inspires vienna.

in focus: the brigittenau bridge. once part of a never-built inner-city highway. today inconspicuous, but with exciting, tentacle-like ramps that surprise from a bird's eye view.

the bridge will become an elongated village. over 30 metres wide, it offers space for structures - above, to the side, perhaps all the way to the water. car traffic disappears, leaving space for buses, bicycles and delivery services. new life on the bridge is hybrid: living, working, leisure, education, culture, gastronomy - everything is possible. the bridge is not only crossed, it is experienced. it becomes the most liveable place in vienna.

3rd term, opel plant aspern I

this semester, students will be tasked with working with the existing structure of the former opel plant in aspern and transforming it into a futurproof urban building block. the collaboration kicked off with an excursion to vienna, including a tour of the construction site and a visit to the office for the first workshop, luch together with the team of querkraft and a keynote speech by christoph chorherr.

4th term with professor querkraft

the visiting professorship of jakob dunkl, gerd erhartt and peter sapp at CVUT prague is entering its final term. the start of the fourth semester with professor querkraft begins with a workshop in our office, a lecture by circular economy specialist thomas romm, and – of course – pizza for lunch together with our team.

this semester, the students will work on the former opel plant in aspern and transform it into a vibrant meeting place.
