querkraft office in historic stock exchange building
emotional sustainability
the vienna stock exchange, designed by the danish architect theophil hansen, exemplifies what we mean by emotional sustainability: a historic building that accommodates new uses without losing its identity. today it serves as an office building; the former rear foyer has been transformed into a vibrant architectural practice.
architectural workshop in the former technical room
an existing steel-framed gallery was dismantled to restore a sense of the 8-metre-high space and to ensure natural light penetrates deep into the room. suspended ceilings, plasterboard cladding and similar features were removed. the result is an office with a workshop-like character.
the deliberate contrast between the historic fabric and the simple, functional redesign reflects our commitment to flexible architecture.
